Ismail CAKMAK

Ismail Cakmak received his Ph.D. at the University Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany. He is currently Professor at the Sabanci University-Istanbul,Turkey.

He has published over 180 peer-reviewed articles and received over 26 500 citations (Hirsch-Index: 84). In 2017, he has been named among the “highly cited researchers” in agricultural sciences by clarivate analytics (Thomson Reuters) based on the last 10 year publication activities and records.

He has received IFA-International Crop Nutrition Award in 2005, Australian Crawford Fund “Derek Tribe Award Medal” in 2007, Germany-Alexander von Humboldt Foundation-Georg Forster Research Award in 2014, International Plant Nutrition Institute- IPNI Science Award in 2016 and World Academy of Sciences Agricultural Science Prize in 2016. He is elected member of “The Academy of Europe” and “The Science Academy” of Turkey

His current research focused on understanding stress-mitigating effects of mineral nutrients in crop plants and human nutritional aspects of plant mineral nutrition. He was president of the International Plant Nutrition Council between 2009-2013. Currently, he is coordinating HarvestZinc project (www.harvestzinc.org) in 12 countries over last 10 years that explores role of fertilizer strategy (i.e., agronomic biofortification) in enrichment of food crops with micronutrients, especially zinc and iodine.
